BI & Data Warehousing
Our introduction to data warehousing was in 1995 during the early data warehousing hype. Data warehousing is now a mature IT discipline with industry wide recognized best practice and pitfalls.
More recently, the industry has evolved from data warehousing (DW) into Business Intelligence (BI). Business Intelligence envelops the business methodologies and analytical processes required to support corporate decision making as well as the IT environment which delivers information to these analytical processes i.e. the data warehouse.
A primary point of focus in Business Intelligence is the business drivers. Increased market share, cost reduction and risk mitigation are drivers for which strategic and tactical planning depend on Business Intelligence. Having determined what analytical processes can support these planning activities, business users can issue requests to the data warehouse in terms of
- What information is required?
- How frequently it is used,
- From which operational systems it is sourced,
- Data quality indicators and cleansing required.
With our Business Intelligence Solutions, we have packaged our know-how from project experiences with industry best practice to equip our customers with the skills to determine their Business Intelligence requirements and how to support these with the data warehouse.
Business Intelligence Solutions Framework
We have established a solid approach to implementing a BI program through our project work. This approach is the basis of our data warehouse development methodology which we use in BI projects and teach on our training courses. Our methodology will support your Business Intelligence program from project start-up through to full production life of the data warehouse. The methodology provides activities, deliverables and techniques to support
- requirements analysis,
- source data analysis,
- relational and dimensional modelling,
- ETL specification.
The approach enables project managers to define clear units of work for scheduling and to manage parallel streams of development.
BI Facilitation
BI is driven by the business needs but it is not always clear how the needs of the business can be best accommodated with the ever increasing selection of IT solutions available in the marketplace.
To aid the transition from BI needs to technical solutions, we facilitate working sessions where business and IT can together focus on real solutions.
Consultancy, On-site Support and Skills Transfer
We can spend time on site with your project team to support them during the various stages of your BI/ data warehouse program. We recommend this approach combined with formal training sessions and workshops for the most efficient skills transfer.
We can review your current project, make recommendations and implement these recommendations for you.
